Each year as time moves us closer to the upcoming year, I take a couple of days to myself for gathering some inspiration while I make my plans for the new year. This year, I returned to my alma mater, Baylor University in Waco, Texas for some reflection and motivation.
While there, I stopped by the now famous Silos brought back to life by HGTV Fixer Upper cohosts and Baylor grads, Chip and Joanna Gaines. The Silos are now home to Magnolia Market, a home decor store sure to make everyone who walks in smile. The air was filled with an upbeat energy, and giddy shoppers grinned from ear to ear as they gathered their goodies.
I did find inspiration in many forms while there. As I walked through the building, I felt like a kid in a candy store.
While waiting in line to check out, Joanna’s mom carefully directed me to a quicker line as I carried all of my treasures. She was as sweet as can be, sincere, helpful, and proud mama. It was a real treat all the way around.
On the way home, I started thinking about their journey, and how their overnight success has actually taken years of perseverance, and hard work. It’s nice to see the fruits of their labor as they develop and come to life.
It was inspiring because I know that we have all had times on our own journey where we have felt a little weary along the way. This was a reminder to keep trying our very best. Their success (and others as well) reminds us to continue to follow our instincts on what resonates or rings true for each one us. Often times, we are closer than we think to the goals we have set. So don’t give up. Wherever you are in your journey, refocus, and make 2016 a year that brings you closer to your dreams, whatever they may be.
What inspires you?
